STEVENSON, Md. – The Frostburg State women's basketball team made seven of its 12 three points attempts - including five from sophomore guard Elaina Hummel - on its way to a 62-55 road win over Stevenson in Capital Athletic Conference play on Wednesday night.
Hummel's 19 points led all scorers, and she was one of three Bobcats to reach double figures. Freshman guard Simone Wise had 13 points and six rebounds, while junior guard Stephanie Straka had 12 points, seven rebounds, five assists and five steals.
The Bobcats led for all but eight seconds of the final 21:39 of the game, with Straka and Hummel hitting baskets in the final two minutes of the first half to send Frostburg into the intermission with a 30-27 advantage.
Stevenson took its only lead of the second half on a free throw at 14:01, but Wise hit a jumper at 13:53 to restore the Frostburg advantage. The lead ballooned from there with Hummel going on a personal 8-2 run to extend the score to 49-42. After a timeout, senior Meische Cox made a jumper to push the lead to a game-high nine-point advantage with 10:49 to play.
Cox finished with five points and five rebounds. Sophomore forward Elizabeth Erickson had seven points and eight rebounds.
