Volleyball Wins Two More at Allegheny

MEADVILLE, Pa. - The Frostburg State volleyball team posted two more wins on the second and final day of the Gator Invitational at Allegheny College, Saturday. FSU downed former conference rival Penn State Behrend, 3-0, and snuck past Allegheny, 3-2.

The Bobcats' two victories pull them to an even 6-6 on the season.

FSU made quick work of the Lions in the first match; 25-19, 25-23 and 25-20.

Seniors Kylie Carrington and Amber Winterling turned in solid efforts against their former arch nemesis from the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference. Carrington had 31 assists while Winterling had 17 digs and 10 kills.

Freshman Nicole Absher added nine kills and classmate Maddie White had 15 digs.

In the second match, Frostburg used a 15-10 fifth set for a 3-2 victory. The Bobcats won game one, 25-15, but dropped the second, 26-24. FSU won the third 25-17, but Allegheny again tied the match by winning the fourth set, 25-22.

Carrington finished with 49 assists, 13 digs and seven kills while Winterling had 14 digs, 13 kills, five aces and two blocks.

White led the way with a season and career-high 29 digs while Absher pounded a match-high 16 kills. Freshman Andrea Armstrong turned in a double-double and season highs with 15 digs and 12 kills. Both sophomore Victoria Veirs and freshman Morgan Hoover had seven kills and five blocks each.

The Bobcats open Capital Athletic Conference action with their first home match of the season this Tuesday against Hood at 7:00 pm.
