Volleyball Splits with Grove City and Pitt-Greensburg

MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Frostburg State University volleyball team defeated Pitt-Greensburg and lost to Grove City to earn a split on the first day of the Gator Invitational at Allegheny College, Friday night.

FSU lost to Grove City, 3-0, in the first match of the day behind scores of 25-17, 25-22 and 25-23.

Senior setter Kylie Carrington handed out a double-double with 20 assists and 12 digs. She also had a pair of blocks. Classmate Amber Winterling led the team with nine kills and 13 digs while freshman Nicole Absher totaled six kills and two blocks.

The Bobcats (4-6) rebounded in the second match for a 3-0 shutout of Pitt-Greensburg; 25-17-, 25-14 and 25-7.

Absher smacked a season-high 16 kills to go along with three blocks and two aces.

The trio of seniors also played a big role in the Bobcat victory. Carrington handed out 39 assists, Amber Winterling had 10 kills and eight digs, while senior Sabrina Winterling added seven kills.

The Bobcats return to action tomorrow at Allegheny. FSU opens the day with action against Penn State Behrend at noon.
