Fast forward to that final Bobcat at-bat. Trailing, 5-4, senior outfielder
Brooke Tapman (Pocomoke, Md./Pocomoke) notched her third hit of the game with a lead-off double to right center. It was her second double of the game, and her fifth hit of the doubleheader in seven at-bats. Freshman
Caitlin Lovend (Laurel, Md./Reservoir) moved Tapman along with a groundout to second. And that's when things became interesting.
Sophomore catcher
Megan Butzner (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) lined out to second, and York's attempt to double off Tapman to end the game resulted in a throwing error that allowed her to score and tie the game at five. The rally didn't end there, however. Senior
Jacki Lynch (Glen Burnie, Md./North County) singled and subsequently stole second. Pinch-hitter
Victoria Krichbaum (Olney, Md./Sherwood) chased Lynch home with a single, and the Bobcats had a sweep of the Spartans.
The Bobcats trailed game two, 2-0, when they busted out with a four-run fourth. Tapman led off with an infield single, starting a merry-go-round that saw Frostburg post five hits and a walk. Sophomore
Shari Beavers (Cumberland, Md./Fort Hill/UMBC) capped the inning with an RBI double to center scoring sophomore
Megan Foy (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville). Foy reached on a single that scored Lynch.
York wouldn't go quietly. It pushed three runs across in the top of the fifth to make it 5-4. That chased starter
Lauren Scrivener (Curtis Bay, Md./Eastern Tech). Game one's starter, junior
Megan Magee (Egg Harbor City, N.J./Holy Spirit) came in to put out the fire and ended up with her second win of the day.
Lynch went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.
York started the afternoon with a run in the top of the first of game one off of Magee. She clamped down after that. Magee went the full seven innings, allowing just the one run while scattering seven hits and striking out five.
Frostburg pulled even in the third when Beavers tripled home Foy. The Bobcats pulled ahead with another run in the bottom of the fourth. Tapman had an infield single and stole second. Lovend singled her to third, and Butzner's double brought her in to make it 2-1. Butzner was 2-for-3 in the first game.
The Bobcats added insurance in the sixth when Tapman again reached on an infield hit and again stole second. She scored on an error on a Lovend batted ball to second.
Beavers finished the doubleheader 3-for-7 with a double, triple and two RBIs.
The Bobcats travel to Hood for a doubleheader tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. before hosting Stevenson for a pair on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
