HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. – Seniors Maurice Williams and Troy Dockett led four starters in double figures as the Frostburg State men’s basketball team defeated Pitt-Greensburg, 91-71, in the consolation game of the Bojangles Christmas Classic at Hampden-Sydney, Friday afternoon.

Williams and Docket each poured in 24 points as the Bobcats evened their record at 6-6 on the season. Pitt-Greensburg fell to 3-8 with its sixth-straight loss.

Both teams shot the ball with a high percentage as UPG held a slim 47.5-47.1 advantage. Pitt-Greensburg had five players in double figures while FSU had four. The difference came as Frostburg made 11 three-pointers, held a 40-32 edge in rebounding and used a 20-6 run early in the second half to secure the victory.

Dockett scored 19 of his 24 in the first half and helped Frostburg rebound from an early 12-6 deficit. He drained three three-pointers in a little under 1:30 to hand FSU an 18-14 lead with 13:28 to play. He later hit back-to-back jumpers as FSU surged to a 10-point cushion (24-14) at 12:08.

After Greensburg cut it to four points at 9:26, senior Bradley Nunn hit a three-pointer that capped a 10-2 run that handed FSU a 37-25 lead, its largest of the first half.

Frostburg surrendered a pair of jumpers to UPG in the closing seconds of the half and led by five at the break.

In the second, Williams scored 20 of his 24 points to help Frostburg blow open the game. He was crucial during FSU’s 20-6 run, scoring the first six points and finishing with eight during the outburst as FSU assumed a 19-point lead, 70-51, with 13:27 to play.

Pitt-Greensburg made a push late in the contest and cut the deficit to 13 points with 2:19 to play. However, Frostburg extended its lead to 20 at the final horn behind a pair of free throws with nine seconds left from senior Justin Redfield.

Williams finished 11-of-17 (64.7%) from the field while Dockett was 9-of-14 (64.2%), but was 6-of-8 (75.0%) from behind the arc. The duo has combined to lead Frostburg in scoring in 10 games this season.
