Mary Washington Clips Frostburg 65-57

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - The Frostburg State University men's basketball team suffered a 65-57 loss to Mary Washington in Capital Athletic Conference action, Saturday afternoon.

Mary Washington led from the opening team to the final horn, but it wasn't as easy as it looked. The Bobcats (2-4, 1-1), who trailed by as many as
14 points early in the second, used most of the half to slowly chip away at the deficit and make things interesting late in the game.

Senior Bradley Nunn hit a layup with 14:48 to play that brought the deficit to single digits, 41-33, for the first time since 6:01 in the first half. Two minutes later, Nunn hit another layup followed by two free throws at 12:01 that helped start a Bobcat rally that covered the next five and a half minutes.

After two FSU baskets cut it to seven, 50-43 at 9:01, UMW pushed its lead back to nine with two free throws. Junior DeSean Antoine hit a three-pointer and classmate Kwambina Coker made a layup as the Bobcats trimmed the score to four, 52-48 with 6:25 showing.

The two teams traded a handful of baskets over the next five minutes and Mary Washington made two free throws with 55 seconds left to push its lead back to seven, 59-52.

The Bobcats made one final push on their ensuing trip down the floor. Senior Ladi Odunlami hit a three-pointer, his only basket of the contest, to cut the deficit back to four points, 59-55 with just 40 seconds left on the clock.

Mary Washington ended the Frostburg rally with a dunk and four free throws inside the final 30 seconds.

The Bobcats outscored UMW 38-31 in the second half, but couldn't bring themselves back from a 34-19 halftime deficit.

Mary Washington shot 42.1 percent from the field on 24-of-57 attempts. Frostburg finished at 35.5 percent shooting on 22-of-62 attempts. Both teams made six three-pointers while Mary Washington held an 11-7 edge in made free throws.

The Bobcats had three players in double figures. Antoine led the team with 12 points, four assists and three 3-PT's. Nunn and senior Troy Docket added 10 points each.

E.J. Willis scored a game-high 16 points for the Eagles while Walt Smith chipped in 12.

Frostburg hosts Hood this Wednesday at Bobcat Arena at 8:00 pm.
