Bobcats Shoot Season-High in Win Over York (Pa.)

FROSTBURG, Md. - The Frostburg State University men's basketball team shot a season-high 50 percent from the floor while earning an 82-73 victory over York (Pa.), Saturday afternoon.

After opening the season with just two wins in six games, the Bobcats have rebounded with back-to-back wins in the Capital Athletic Conference. FSU evened its overall record at 4-4 and is now 3-1 in the league with the victory. The Spartans slip to 5-4 overall and 2-2 in the CAC.

Frostburg State held double-digit leads in both halves and had four players score in double-figures.

After three ties and three lead changes in the first 8:14 of the first half, senior Maurice Williams hit a layup to give the Bobcats a 13-11 lead at 11:24, a lead they would never relinquish.

Four minutes later, freshman Bobby Bates hit a three-pointer that gave the hosts a six-point advantage, 23-17. Frostburg grabbed its first double-digit lead of the ballgame, 31-21, behind a 6-0 spurt that covered a little under 40 seconds with five minutes to play in the opening half.

The Bobcats pushed their lead to 14 points on several occasions in the closing minutes before a Spartan three-pointer sent the visitors into the locker room down 41-30.

York opened the second half on a 12-5 run that cut the deficit to 46-42 with 14:29 showing. The Bobcats pushed their lead back to nine points, but another YCP run, this time an 8-2 outburst, allowed it to close to within three, 57-54 at 9:39.

York's Todd Maciejewski hit a layup at 6:54 that brought the deficit to 64-60, but that was as close as the Spartans would get.

Just like the first half, Frostburg used another 6-0 spurt to grab a 10-point lead, this time a 70-60 edge with 4:16 to play.

Inside the final two minutes, the Bobcats made 8-of-10 foul shots to seal the victory.

Four players finished in double-figures for the Bobcats, led by 20 from Williams. The senior forward finished 6-of-10 (60%) from the floor, 6-of-8 (80%) at the foul line and made two three-pointers. He also snared a team-high eight rebounds. Junior DeSean Antoine added 19 points, followed by senior Troy Dockett (18 pts) and senior Bradley Nunn (10 pts).

Julian Watson led York with 19 points, including a 13-of-17 effort from the free throw line. Paul Kouvaris added 16.
