Volleyball to Host York (Pa.) in Opening Round

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State University volleyball team has earned the third seed in the 2011 Capital Athletic Conference Tournament and will host sixth-seeded York (Pa.) on Tuesday, Nov. 1, at 7:00 pm.

The defending CAC Champion Bobcats finished the regular season 15-19 overall and 5-3 in the league. FSU won the CAC last year in its first year as a member of the conference. The Bobcats needed a key 3-2 victory over York (Pa.) in the tournament semifinals to earn the title a year ago.

The York (Pa.) Spartans enter the tournament 15-16 overall and an even 4-4 in the CAC. YCP escaped with a 3-2 victory over FSU in the regular season. Tuesday’s opening round match should provide plenty of excitement as the previous three meetings between the schools have lasted at least four games.

The other first round matchup features fifth-seeded St. Mary’s (10-17, 4-4) at fourth-seeded Mary Washington (16-14, 5-3). UMW downed St. Mary’s, 3-0, during the regular season.

Salisbury grabbed the league’s top seed after finishing 29-3 overall and a perfect 8-0 in the league. The Sea Gulls head into the tournament on a 10-match winning streak and look to get back to the top of the CAC, a position they held from 2007-09. Stevenson is the second seed after posting a 30-2 overall mark and a 7-1 record in the conference.

Salisbury will host the winner of the Mary Washington and St. Mary’s contest, while Stevenson hosts the winner of FSU/YCP.

The semifinals are scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 3, while the league championship is slated for Saturday, Nov. 5.

The winner of the league receives an automatic bid to the 2011 NCAA Tournament.
