Bobcats Drops Two Matches at Salisbury

SALISBURY, Md. – The Frostburg State volleyball team closed out its regular season with a pair of losses at a tri-match at Salisbury University, Saturday. The Bobcats dropped their opening match of the day to host SU, 3-0, and later fell to Virginia Wesleyan, 3-1.

Salisbury, the top seed in the upcoming CAC Tournament that starts this Tuesday night, earned 25-12, 25-8 and 25-17 wins over the Bobcats.

The Sea Gulls hit .378 with 16 blocks in the win. Sam Seifert posted a match-high 12 kills and hit .455.

Offensively, the Bobcats were led by freshman Nicole Absher, who posted 11 kills, hit .273 and had six digs. Senior Kylie Carrington handed out 18 assists, four kills and six digs. Freshman Maddie White led the team with nine digs.

In the loss to Virginia Wesleyan, FSU surrendered the match after taking an early 1-0 lead. Frostburg grabbed a 25-20 victory in the first set, but the Marlins posted 25-16, 25-19 and 25-20 wins to close out the match.

Frostburg hit .333 in the game-one win and posted a .320 hitting percentage in the second set. However, the Bobcats were unable to rebound and suffered the four-set loss.

Absher again led the Bobcats with 13 kills and a .385 hitting percentage. Senior Sabrina Winterling was second on the team with 10 kills.

Carrington had another solid match with 26 assists, three kills, six digs and one block. White added 13 digs followed by junior Chelsea McCloskey with eight.

Frostburg State returns to action on Tuesday in the opening round of the CAC Tournament. A full tournament preview will be available in the coming days.
