Volleyball Rallies for Victory Over Mary Washington

FROSTBURG, Md.
– The Frostburg State volleyball team rallied from an early one set deficit to earn a crucial 3-1 victory over Capital Athletic Conference foe Mary Washington at Bobcat Arena.  It was the Bobcats 18th consecutive regular season home victory at Bobcat Arena.   

Mary Washington took the first set 25-14.  The first set was back-and-forth early as the score was tied at eight.  The Eagles took control of the set after they rattled off nine of the next 11 points behind kills from Ellen Smethurst and Tola Adebanjo.

Frostburg battled back in the second set and too an early 7-3 lead.  After a timeout by coach Dee Conway, the Eagles closed the gap to 8-7, but the Bobcats hung on for a 25-21 victory in set two. 

The third set would be close once again, but the Bobcats prevailed to take a 2-1 advantage.  In the fourth set, the Eagles took an early lead.  However, the Bobcats would rally once again as Andrea Armstrong had two aces as Frostburg took the lead. 

Senior Amber Winterling led the team with 13 kills and six digs.  Andrea Armstrong added eight kills and 12 digs, while senior Kylie Carrington handed out 26 assists.  The Bobcats had three players record 10 or more digs including Armstrong (12), Chelsea McCloskey (10), and Frostburg State Female Athlete of the Week Maddie White (11). 

The Bobcats (14-13, 4-1) return to the court this weekend when they travel to the Johns Hopkins Tri-Match to play the Blue Jays and Haverford College.
