Men’s Hoops Drops 88-60 Decision to St. Mary’s (Md.)

ST. MARY’S CITY, Md. – In a rematch of the Pride of Maryland Tournament Championship, the Frostburg State University men’s basketball team came up short and suffered an 88-60 loss to St. Mary’s, Saturday.

The victory evened the season series at one win apiece after FSU downed the Seahawks in the PoM Championship game, 56-54.

The 17th-ranked Seahawks (11-3, 5-0) broke a 21-21 first half tie with a three-pointer at 5:14 and slowly increased its lead over the rest of the game. St. Mary’s led 41-30 at the half and pushed its lead to 30 points, 86-56, with just 1:54 to play.

St. Mary’s shot 48.2 percent (27-of-56) from the floor and made 10 three-pointers (10-of-18). The Seahawks also held a 46-24 edge in rebounding.

FSU (7-10, 2-6) shot just 35.6 percent (21-of-59) from the field and finished 2-of-13 (15.4%) from beyond the arc.

The Bobcats were led by senior Mhabhushah Koffa (Germantown, Md./Seneca Valley) with 12 points followed by junior Bradley Nunn (Ft. Washington, Md./Riverdale Baptist) with 11 points.

St. Mary’s had three players in double figures. Mike Fitzpatrick led all players with 23 points followed by Sam Burum with 14 and Christian MacAuley with 10 points.

The Bobcats return to action next Saturday, January 22 when they travel to Mary Washington at 4:00 pm.
