FROSTBURG, Md. - Behind impressive play from senior
Jamie Thomas (Laurel, Md./Reservoir), the Frostburg State volleyball team remained undefeated on the season with a 3-0 shutout victory over Gettysburg, Wednesday. The Bobcats earned the three set victory with scores of 25-17, 25-12 and 25-21.
The Bobcats (6-0) downed the Bullets (3-3) in game one 25-17 behind a 10-point run. After FSU jumped out to a quick 7-2 lead, GC battled back to bring the score to 14-12. Frostburg then used a 10-0 run to take control of the game.
The Bobcats used a five-point run for a 15-5 edge in the middle part of the second contest. Gettysburg collected a small four-point swing but FSU earned the 25-12 win behind a 6-2 run late in the game.
Neither team grabbed an early lead in the third game as the two squads battled to a close 16-15 score midway through the contest. The Bobcats used a small 3-0 spurt for a 20-16 lead and later collected a 4-0 run for a 24-18 lead. Gettysburg then collected its own 3-0 run but the Bobcats earned the final point for the match win.
Thomas had a breakout game as she finished with season-high's in digs (17), kills (11) and aces (4). The win over the Bullets marks the first time this season that Thomas has recorded double-digit kills in a match.
Junior
Amber Winterling (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg) finished with 10 kills, eight digs, one ace and one block while senior
Sarah Stephens (Oakland, Md./Southern Garrett) posted eight kills, seven digs, two aces and one block.
Junior setter
Kylie Carrington (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) handed out 38 assists and senior libero
Brittany McVearry (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) had nine digs.
The Bobcat volleyball team hosts it FSU Tournament this weekend at Bobcat Arena. The tournament gets under way at 3:00 pm when FSU hosts Eastern Mennonite.
