HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Frostburg State volleyball team swept both Carnegie Mellon and Neumann to finish a perfect 4-0 at the Haverford Tournament this weekend. With the tournament's perfect slate, the Bobcats improve their overall record to 5-0 on the season.
FSU narrowly got past the Tartans in the first two games: 26-24 and 25-23. However, game three provided a little more cushion as the Bobcats won by four, 25-21. The Bobcats downed Neumann in straight sets in the second match 25-19, 25-20 and 25-22.
Junior setter
Kylie Carrington (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) had a impressive second day of the tournament. She totaled 66 assists, seven kills, five digs, three aces and four blocks in the two matches. She poured out 35 assists against Neumann.

Amber Winterling (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg) led FSU with 12 kills and tied for the team lead with 15 digs against CMU. Senior
Sarah Stephens (Oakland, Md./Southern Garrett) posted 11 kills and 13 digs while classmate
Jamie Thomas (Laurel, Md./Reservoir) added 15 digs and eight kills. Senior libero
Brittany McVearry (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) contributed 10 digs.
Against the Knights, Stephens powered the attack with a team-high 12 kills and McVearry tacked on a team-high 12 digs. Amber Winterling added nine kills, nine digs and two blocks and Thomas finished with nine digs, four kills, two blocks and one ace.
Juniors
Christine Barnes (Williamsport, Md./Williamsport) and
Sabrina Winterling (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg) and freshman
Alexandria McLeod (Lanham, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) also turned in stellar efforts on the day. Barnes had six digs, three aces and three assists while Sabrina Winterling added 15 kills and six blocks, including five against Neumann. McLeod recorded four blocks and one kill.
The FSU volleyball team returns home this Wednesday (Sept. 8) when it hosts Gettysburg at 7:00 pm.
