HAVRFORD, Pa. – The Frostburg State volleyball remained undefeated on the year with a pair of opening round wins at the Haverford Tournament, Saturday. The Bobcats downed host Haverford 3-1 and later shutout Susquehanna 3-0.
The Bobcats (3-0) defeated Haverford 25-15 and 28-26 for a 2-0 lead. The Fords rebounded for a win in the third game 26-24, but FSU captured the match with a 25-20 win in game four.
Senior
Sarah Stephens (Oakland, Md./Southern Garrett) powered the FSU attack with 24 kills and 10 digs. Junior
Sabrina Winterling (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg) was second on the team with 10 kills and she added a match-high four blocks.
Junior
Amber Winterling (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg) had seven kills and a team-high 14 digs while senior
Brittany McVearry (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) posted 13 digs. Junior
Kylie Carrington (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) handed out 43 assists and posted 10 digs.
The second match of the day for the Bobcats came via shutout as they swept past Susquehanna by scores of 25-19, 25-20, 25-13.
Stephens again led the attack with 16 kills while Amber Winterling was second with nine kills. She also recorded a team-high 12 digs. McVearry had four digs and four aces and Carrington passed out 35 assists and five digs.
Senior
Jamie Thomas (Laurel, Md./Reservoir) combined to smash 14 kills and collect 15 digs in the two matches.
FSU returns to the Haverford Tournament tomorrow when it plays Carnegie Mellon (11:30 am) and Neumann (1:00 pm).
