NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Sophomore goalkeeper Maggie Edwards (Lebanon, N.J./Hunterdon Central Regional) made a career-high 30 saves and senior forward Lindsey Frost (Columbia, Md./Hammond) scored the only goal for the Frostburg State field hockey team in a 4-1 loss to No. 8 ranked Christopher Newport, Sunday.

Box Score

The Captains (6-1) scored a pair of goals in each half on their way to their fourth-straight win. Katelyn Yandle led the way with two scores and an assist.

Edwards stopped an incredible 30 shots, including 17 in the second half for the Bobcats (2-7). She has made 10 or more saves in five games this season and leads the Capital Athletic Conference with 107, more than double the next closest player.

After CNU scored the game's first two goals, Frost narrowed the deficit to 2-1 with her team-leading seventh goal of the season (25:02). Six minutes later, Frostburg was in prime position to tie the contest. Frost had a chance for her second score but her shot was turned away by keeper Brittany Bradsher. At 33:15, freshman Courtney Abell (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) attempted FSU's final shot of the half, but it too was stopped by Bradsher and CNU hung on for a 2-1 halftime lead.

Brianna Milne extended the CNU lead 4:28 into the second half with her only goal of the game. CNU continued to pour on the shots as Edwards made 10 consecutive saves to keep the deficit at two, but the Captains finally added an insurance goal in the 57th minute as Yandle stuffed home her second goal.

Edwards went on to make four more saves over the final 13 minutes of action to CNU from adding to its lead.

Frost led the team with three shots and freshman Tiffany Weschler (Olney, Md./Sherwood) added a defensive save , the first of collegiate career.

Frostburg returns to the field on Saturday, Sept. 25 when it travels to Mary Washington at 1:00 pm.
