Stephens and Winterling Boost Volleyball to 12-0

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Frostburg State volleyball team improved to a perfect 12-0 on the season behind senior Sarah Stephens (Oakland, Md./Southern Garrett) and junior Sabrina Winterling (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg) as it defeated Philadelphia Biblical, 3-0, in the first game of the Bridgewater Invitational, Friday night.

The 12-0 start for the Bobcats ties the school record set in 1999 as the best start for volleyball team in school history. The previous mark is set at 12-0 by the 1999 team that also holds the school record for wins in a season (36).

FSU set the tone for the match opening with a 25-8 win over PBU (5-6) in the first game. The Bobcats took the final two games with a 25-13 win in each game. This match marked the ninth shutout by the Bobcats this season.

Stephens lead the attack with 12 kills, four aces and three digs followed by Sabrina Winterling with 10 kills and one block. Senior Jamie Thomas (Laurel, Md./Reservoir) finished the match with eight kills, eight digs and one ace while junior Amber Winterling (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg) turned in five kills, three digs and two aces.

Junior setter Kylie Carrington (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) handed out 29 assists in the match while posting one block and senior libero Brittany McVearry (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) had six digs.

The Bobcats return to the court on Saturday when they take on Bridgewater at the Bridgewater Invitational at 12:00 pm.
