SALEM, Va. - Despite a goal each from seniors
Breanne Russell (Clements, Md./Chopticon) and
Lindsey Frost (Columbia, Md./Hammond) the Frostburg State University field hockey team dropped its season opener to Roanoke 4-2, Wednesday afternoon.
Box Score

The Bobcats (0-1) led the way with 19 shots, including an 11-5 edge in the second half. FSU also held a 9-3 edge in penalty corners in the second, but Roanoke keeper Christina Schicilone made seven second-half saves to spoil any Bobcat comeback.

Roanoke then found the net three-consecutive times for a 4-1 edge, including two goals in the opening 11 minutes of the second half.
Russell narrowed the score to 4-2 with a goal from the right side of the box in the 49th minute of action. The Bobcats attempted five more shots following Russell’s goal but were unable to find the net again.
Bobcat keeper
Maggie Edwards ( Lebanon, N.J./Hunterdon Central Regional) made four saves in the loss while Schicilone finished with 12.
