CENTERVILLE, Mass. – Juniors
Matt Greene (Westminster, Md./South Carroll (Hagerstown)) and
Britton Quayle (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park (Anne Arnudel CC)) join head coach
Guy Robertson in another postseason award as the ECAC announced its 2010 Division III South Baseball All Stars, Thursday afternoon.
Robertson was named ECAC South Head Coach of the Year to add to his AMCC Coach of the Year selection as he guided the Bobcats to a 32-13 overall season, tied for the second most wins in a season and the most wins since 1999. Robertson is in just his third year as head coach and has lead FSU to a 79-44 overall record and three-straight AMCC Tournament appearances including this year's regular season champions title.
Quayle also picked up his third postseason award as he was named to the Second Team All-ECAC to add to his AMCC Pitcher of the Year selection and ABCA All-Region Mid-Atlantic Second team honor. Quayle finished his stand out season with an overall record of 8-1 to tie him for sixth all-time in single season wins and led all FSU pitchers with a 2.52 and just a 1.11 AMCC ERA. The righthander pitched two complete games, had one combined shutout and led the Frostburg State pitching staff with two saves on the season. He also led the Bobcats in strikeouts, picking up 66 on the season and kept opponents to a team-low .235 batting average. Against AMCC opponent Franciscan University on April 13, Quayle struck out 11 batters, a team and personal season-high. Quayle was a two-time AMCC Pitcher of the Week.
A first team all-conference selection, Quayle did not drop a game in the regular season and consistently pitched well leading all starters in earned runs (18) and walks (18) while tying for the most appearances with 17.
Greene continues to add to his postseason awards as he was selected to the D3baseball.com All-American Second Team selection, ABCA All-Region Mid-Atlantic Second team and was an All-AMCC First Team honoree and now can add Second Team All-ECAC South.
Greene left his mark on the FSU record books after an impressive first season in a Bobcat uniform. He holds seven FSU single season records including runs scored (60), hits (78), doubles (24), homeruns (14), RBIs (60), extra base hits (40) and total bases (148). Over the course of the season, Greene had two 10+ game hitting streaks; a 16-game hitting streak to start his season and a 13-game streak while reaching base safely in all but two of the Bobcats' 45 games. He led the Bobcats with a .448 batting average and led the AMCC and Bobcats with a .851 slugging percentage. His record-setting numbers in homeruns, doubles and total bases was also good enough to lead the AMCC. Greene finished his season with a .932 fielding percentage, fielding a team-leading 27 double plays.
