FROSTBURG, Md. - Sophomore
David Thomas (Taneytown, Md./Francis Scott Key) will represent the Frostburg State University track & field teams at the 2010 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships, later this week. The championships will be hosted by Baldwin-Wallace College, May 27-29, at The George Finnie Stadium in Berea, Ohio.
Thomas will compete in the long jump and currently holds the third longest distance in the nation this season at 7.39 meters, which he set at the Elliston Invitational at Lock Haven Univ. Stryker Pena (7.59 meters) and Gavan Bass (7.44 meters) of McMurry University hold the top two positions in the long jump and they lead a field of 15 student-athletes who will compete in the event.
Thomas has finished in the top five in all six meets in which he competed in the high jump this spring, including wins at the Don Frail Invitational (Marietta College) and Elliston Invitational.
Also a sprinter, Thomas was equally impressive in the 100 and 200-meter dashes during the outdoor season with 13 top-10 finishes in eight meets. However, he did not make the cut for the NCAA Championships in the 100-meter dash after provisionally qualifying late last week at the TCNJ Last Chance Meet.
