Quayle and Greene Named to ABCA Mid-Atlantic All-Region Team

Juniors Matt Greene and Britton Quayle
FROSTBURG, Md. – Juniors Britton Quayle (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park (Anne Arnudel CC)) and Matt Greene (Westminster, Md./South Carroll (Hagerstown)) were named to the 2010 American Baseball Coaches Association Mid-Atlantic All-Region second team, Monday.

The duo helped the Bobcats to a 32-13 overall record, a first-place regular season finish in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference and runner's up in the 2010 conference championship.

Quayle, who was named the AMCC Pitcher of the Year and a First Team All-AMCC selection, led all FSU and AMCC pitchers with a 2.56 ERA and an opponents batting average of just .235 in 63.1 innings of work. The righthander also led all pitchers with 66 strikeouts on the season and had a team-high 11 striikeouts against AMCC opponent Franciscan University. Quayle did not drop a game in the regular season finishing 8-1 and consistently pitched well leading all starters on both the team and AMCC in earned runs (18) and led FSU pitchers in walks (18) while tying for the most appearances with 17. Quayle is tied for sixth all-time in single season wins and fourth in winning percentage (.888).

Greene, an AMCC First Team selection, left his mark on the FSU record books after an impressive first season in Bobcat uniform. He holds seven FSU single season records including runs scored (60), hits (78), doubles (24), homeruns (14), RBIs (60), extra basehits (40) and total bases (148). Over the course of the season, Greene had two 10+ game hitting streaks, a 16-game hitting streak to start his season and a 13-game streak starting just the game after losing the first streak while reaching base safely in all but two of the Bobcats' 45 games. Greene had 23 multiple hit games including a stellar 5-for-5 performance against Penn State Altoona in the conference championship tournament in which he had two homeruns, one being a grandslam. He led the Bobcats with a .448 batting average and led the AMCC and Bobcats with a .851 slugging percentage. His record-setting numbers in homeruns, doubles and total bases was also good enough to lead the AMCC and FSU. Greene finished his season with a .932 fielding percentage, fielding a team-leading 27 double plays.
