GIBSONIA, Pa. – Junior pitcher
Britton Quayle (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park (Anne Arnudel CC)) and head coach
Guy Robertson each captured top honors on the All-Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference teams, announced Tuesday. The Bobcats earned a total of four all-conference selections for the 2010 season.
Quayle was named the AMCC Pitcher of the Year and finished his stand out season with an overall record of 8-1 to tie him for sixth all-time single season wins and led all FSU pitchers with a 2.52 and just a 1.11 AMCC ERA. The righthander pitched two complete games, had one combined shutout and led the Frostburg State pitching staff with two saves on the season. He also led the Bobcats in strikeouts, picking up 66 on the season and kept opponents to a team-leading .235 batting average. Against AMCC opponent Franciscan University on April 13, Quayle struck out 11 batters, a team and personal season-high. Quayle was a two-time AMCC Pitcher of the Week.
A first team all-conference selection, Quayle did not drop a game in the regular season and consistently pitched well leading all starters in earned runs (18) and walks (18) while tying for the most appearances with 17.
Robertson was named Head Coach of the Year as he guided the Bobcats to a 32-13 overall season, tied for the second most wins in a season and the most wins since 1999. Robertson is in just his third year as head coach and has lead FSU to a 79-44 overall record and three-straight AMCC tournament appearances including this season's regular season champions title.
Junior
Matt Greene (Westminster, Md./South Carroll (Hagerstown)) and sophomore
Doug Anuszewski (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) joined Quayle as first team selections while senior
Greg Beachy (Grantsville, Md./Northern Garrett) picked up honorable mention honors for his work on the mound.
Greene led all AMCC second basemen this year with his excellent season at the plate and in the field in his first season as a Bobcat holding a team leading .448 batting average. He holds seven FSU single season records including runs scored (60), hits (78), doubles (24), homeruns (14), RBIs (60), extra basehits (40) and total bases (148). Over the course of the season, Greene had two 10+ game hitting streaks, a 16-game hitting streak to start his season and a 13-game streak starting just the game after losing the first streak while reaching base safely in all but two of the Bobcats' 45 games. Greene had 23 multiple hit games including a stellar 5-for-5 performance against Penn State Altoona in the conference championship tournament in which he had two homeruns, one being a grandslam. Greene finished his season with a .932 fielding percentage, fielding a team-leading 27 double plays.
Anuszeswki joined his teammates on the first-team after his break through year at first base. He finished the season batting .415, second on the team, with 49 hits and 31 RBIs. The first baseman had a two-homerun game against Washington College in which the Bobcats captured a 13-0 win over the Shoreman. Anuszewski was selected as AMCC Player of the Week and ECAC South Co-Player of the week for his performance over spring break that ended with the contest against WC. In the field, he was as good as it gets holding a .993 fielding percentage with 259 putouts and just two errors.
Beachy rounded out the All-AMCC selections for the Bobcats with a honorable mention selection for his last season in a Bobcat uniform. The righthander finished the season with a 8-3 overall record, joining Quayle in sixth place in single season wins. Beachy appeared in 16 games and held a 4.77 ERA on the season. He was second on the team in strikeouts with 56, including a team lead 33 batters struck out looking.
Penn State Behrend's Josh Fyffe came away with the Player of the Year honors for the second year in a row and Steve Anderson of Pitt-Greensburg and Aaron Kovach of Mt. Aloysius split the Newcomer of the Year honors.
