GIBSONIA, Pa. – Frostburg State University junior
Brooke Tapman (Pocomoke, Md./Pocomoke), sophomore
Megan Magee (Egg Harbor City, N.J./Holy Spirit) and head coach
Wes Landrum each captured top honors on the All-Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference teams, announced Friday. The Bobcats earned a total of five all-conference selections, the most since 2007.
Magee became the school’s first-ever AMCC Pitcher of Year and was a key reason FSU captured its second AMCC Tournament title. She leads the AMCC in innings pitched (170.0), strikeouts (163), wins (18) and starts (26). She finished 9-2 in the league with a 0.88 earned run average. She tossed 10 compete games with one save and struckout 85 against AMCC competition.
A first team all-conference honoree, Magee posted a pair of six-game winning streaks on the season including three-straight wins in the conference tournament to vault the Bobcats to their first-ever NCAA Tournament
Tapman became the fourth player in school history to capture league Player of the Year honors. She leads the Bobcats in nine offensive categories including batting average (.425), runs (41), total bases (97), hits (57) and homeruns (9). She leads both FSU and the league in steals (22) and needs just two hits to break her own single-season school record. Tapman, a first-team selection, set FSU career records for runs (112), RBIs (118), total bases (289) and stolen bases (43) earlier this year.
Landrum was named the league’s Coach of the Year for the first time in his FSU career after guiding his squad to a school record 30 wins. He has led the Bobcats to three-straight AMCC Championship game appearances before breaking through with the league crown this season.
Joining Magee and Tapman on the all-conference team are senior
Lindsay Freitag (Baltimore, Md./Parkville) and junior
Megan Henne (Pasadena, Md./Northeast).
Freitag, a second team selection, led Frostburg State in at bats (135), plate appearances (154) and triples (4). She saved her best season for her last as she set career-highs in at bats (135), runs (32), hits (46), doubles (8) and RBIs (21).
Henne captured a pair of all-conference honors; second team as a designated player and honorable mention as a pitcher. Henne paced the Bobcats in doubles (12) and was second in batting average (.375) and RBIs (25). She was third in total bases (54), on-base percentage (.412) and hits (42).
In the circle, Henne finished 7-2 against AMCC opponents with eight complete games and 20 strikeouts. After opening the season with just two wins in her first four games, Henne finished with nine wins in her final 11 starts, including a six-game winning streak to open AMCC action.
Sarah Angeletti rounded out the AMCC honors after taking home the Newcomer of the Year award.
The Bobcats remained alive in the NCAA Regional earlier this afternoon with a 5-3 win over Piedmont College. FSU faces top seeded Salisbury tomorrow morning at 10:00 am.
