Track & Field Competes at the Jim Taylor Invitational

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Frostburg State earned five first-place finishes as the men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Jim Taylor Invitational, Saturday afternoon.

Junior Emily Furr (Damascus, Md./Poolesville) and sophomore David Thomas each captured two first-place finishes on the day while senior Tarik Muhammad (Pittsville, Md./Riverside) had one.

Furr placed first in the high jump (1.57 meters) and the triple jump (11.21 meters), qualifying for ECAC Championships in the triple jump. Thomas recorded his first-place finishes in the 100-meter dash (11.09) and the 200-meter dash (22.53). Furr also finished in fourth-place in the pole vault (2.55 meters) while Thomas captured third-place in the long jump (6.34 meters).

Muhammad captured his first-place finish in the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.27.

On the women's side, sophomore Amy Brennan (Fort Washington, Md./St. Mary's Ryken) placed second in the 200-meter dash (27.31) and fifth in the 400-meter dash (1:02.41).

Senior Gwen Massey (Thorofare, N.J./West Deptford) captured second-place in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 18:28.53, hitting the ECAC qualifying standard, while junior Anne Patron (Baltimore, Md./Dulany) crossed the line sixth in the 5,000-meter run (19:00.13).

In the 10,000-meter run, senior Christina Aumand (Chesapeake Beach, Md./Huntingtown) finished second (40:32.10) while junior Jessica O'Neil (Mechanicsville, Md./Chopticon) placed third (42:23.79).

Freshman Elizabeth Erickson (Bellwood, Pa./Bellwood Antis) captured seventh in the shot put (9.71 meters) and senior Kayla Peters (Dunkirk, Md./Northern) finished in seventh-place in the hammer throw with a mark of 32.03 meters.

Joining Thomas in the sprint events was sophomore Chauncey Manson. Mason captured third-place in the 100-meter dash (11.36) and second-place in the 200-meter dash (22.79). Freshman Justin Davis also placed sixth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.80.

In the 400-meter dash, sophomore Sean Wright (Abeerden, Md./Abeerden) finished in third-place (51.08) while freshman Tyler Scruggs (Baltimore, Md./Loch Haven) placed seventh (52.21)

Sophomore Gavin Caupp (Frostburg, Md./Mt. Ridge) captured fourth-place in the 5,000-meter run, crossing the line with a time of 15:33.92.

In the hurdle events, senior Steve Flanagan (Cumberland, Md./Fort Hill) recorded a fourth-place finish (17.02) in the 110-meter hurdles and a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles (58.59).

In the long jump, sophomore Mitchell Hill (Taneytown, Md./Francis Scott Key) placed fourth (5.66 meters) while senior Dan Bloch (Baltimore, Md./Dundalk) finished in sixth-place (5.54 meters).

Junior Artemis Constantinou (Potomac, Md./Richard Montgomery) captured fourth-place in the discus throw with a mark of 34.60 meters.

In the men’s 4x100-meter relay, Davis, Thomas and Manson joined sophomore Jordan Calloway (Galena, Md./Kent County) to finish in first-place with an ECAC qualifying time of 43.41.

Wright and Muhammad teamed up with sophomores Charles Jacobs (Baltimore, Md./Aberdeen) and Markese Hayden (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen) crossing the line in first-place in the 4x400-meter relay (3:23.90), qualifying for ECAC Championships.

FSU is back is back in action on April 10 at the Bison Outdoor Classic at Bucknell University at 1:00 pm.
