Furr Hits NCAA Provisional Mark at the Lynchburg College Invitational

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Junior Emily Furr (Damascus, Md./Poolesville) hit the NCAA Division III provisional mark in the trip jump as the Frostburg State men’s and women’s track and field teams competed at the Lynchburg College Invitational, Saturday.

Furr captured second-place in the triple jump with a mark of 11.41 meters, qualifying for ECAC Championships and surpassing the NCAA Division III provisional qualifying standard. Furr also placed in the high jump (1.60 meters) and fifth in the 100-meter dash (13.09), qualifying for ECAC Championships in the high jump.

Sophomore David Thomas had a strong performance this weekend, finishing in first-place in the 200-meter dash (21.84), third-place in the 100-meter dash (10.84) and fourth in the long jump (6.76 meters), qualifying for ECAC Championships in the 200-meter dash and 100-meter dash.

Joining Thomas in the sprint events was sophomore Chauncey Manson, capturing third in the 200-meter dash (22.10) and fourth in the 100-meter dash (10.87) as well as hitting the ECAC qualifying mark in both events.

Freshman Rashidi Jackson (Crofton, Md./Arundel) placed fifth (22.43) in the 200-meter dash while classmate Justin Davis (Suitland, Md./Thomas Stone) placed seventh (22.96).

In the men’s 400-meter dash, senior Tarik Muhammad (Pittsville, Md./Riverside) placed second (50.62) and sophomore Sean Wright (Abeerden, Md./Abeerden) finished in fourth place with a time of 51.06.

Sophomore Charles Jacobs (Baltimore, Md./Abeerden) captured fifth-place in the 800-meter run when he crossed the line with a time of 1:58.31 while sophomore Gavin Caupp (Frostburg, Md./Mt. Ridge) placed sixth in the 5,000-meter run (16:08.88).

In the men’s 4x400 relay, Jacobs and Wright joined with sophomore Markese Hayden (Abeerden, Md./Abeerden) and freshman Tyler Scruggs (Baltimore, Md./Loch Haven) to finish in third-place with a time of 3:25.28.

Joining Furr on the women’s side, was senior Gwen Massey (Thorofare, N.J./West Deptford), who finished in first-place in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:59.19, qualifying for ECAC Championships.

In the 5,000-meter run, senior Christina Aumand (Chesapeake Beach, Md./Huntingtown) placed sixth (20:04.03) while junior #Jessica O’Neil# (Mechanicsville, Md./Chopticon) finished in seventh place with a time of 20:27.70.

FSU is back is back in action on March 27 at the Jim Taylor Invitational in Selinsgrove, Pa. at 9:00 am.
