Massey and Patron Earn USTFCCCA Academic Honors

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Frostburg State women's cross country runners senior Gwen Massey (Thorofare, N.J./West Deptford) and sophomore Anne Patron (Baltimore, Md./Dulaney) were named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic Team for the 2009 season. 

The award honors student-athletes who have succeeded both academically and athletically. To be eligible for the award an athlete must carry a 3.3 cumulative GPA, as well as, finish in the top 35 percent of the field at their respective NCAA regional meet.

Massey captured 14th at the NCAA Regional meet crossing the line with a time of 22:31.9, earning a NCAA Division III Mideast All-Region team selection for her efforts. She was also named Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Runner of the Year and was awarded all-conference honors for the fourth-straight year, after placing first at the AMCC Championships with a time of 24:17

Patron, a NCAA Division III Mideast All-Region team honoree, finished 22nd with a time of 22:44.6 at the 2009 regional meet. This is the second-straight year that Patron has earned this honor after receiving it last season for her 43rd place finish at the NCAA Regional Meet. Patron also earned all-conference honors for the second-straight year after placing fourth at the AMCC Championships with a time of 24:50.

Overall, the Bobcat women placed 12th at the NCAA Regional meet and had a strong performance at the AMCC Championships to take second place.
