FROSTBURG, Md. - Three different players scored in double figures as the Frostburg State women's basketball team pulled out a tournament openeing round win against La Roche, 67-65, in a re-match of last season's upset by the Redhawks at the final buzzer.

The Bobcats (19-7, 15-5) led the Redhawks (13-13, 11-9) in bench points (9-0), however LAR had the advantage in points off turnovers, 18-9.
Senior
Elizabeth Carrington (Clinton, Md./Oxon Hill) opened the first half for FSU with a jump shot and gave the lead to the Bobcats that they would not surrender in the half. Frostburg State led by as much as 10 with four minutes left to play in the half, though La Roche used a 8-0 run in the final two minutes to cut the Bobcat lead to only two at the half.
The Redhawks opened the second half making a jumper just 17 seconds into play to tie the game 28-28. Junior
Lisa Byer (Johnstown, Pa. / Conemaugh (Allegany College)) answered with a three-pointer from senior
Brittany James (Baltimore, Md./Milford Mill) to take the lead back for the Bobcats, 31-28. Behind a 20-10 run, the Bobcats took a 13-point lead with just 7:38 left to play in the game. La Roche battled back over the last seven minutes and managed to cut the lead to just five with 0:03 left on the clock. In a last ditch effort, LAR's Chole Stewart hit a three at the buzzer, but was not enough as the Bobcats hung on to win 67-65.
Senior
Caryn Wright (Baltimore, Md./Western Tech) led the Bobcats with 22 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. James finished with 11 points and nine boards while Carrington put up 11 points and three boards in the Bobcat win.
FSU led in rebounding 50-38 over LAR.
Chantelle Jennings led all players with 26 points while Cheronda Ransaw pulled down 10 boards for the Redhawks.
Frostburg State returns to the court on Friday when it travels to Buffalo, N.Y. to take on No. 7 Pitt-Bradford in the semifinals round of the AMCC Tournament hosted by Medaille at 3:00 pm.
