Furr Breaks School Record at the Susquehanna Invitational

SELINSGROVE, Pa.- Junior Emily Furr (Damascus, Md./Poolesville) broke the Frostburg State school record in the triple jump as the track and field teams competed at the Susquehanna Invitational, Saturday. 

Results

Furr captured first-place in the triple jump with a mark of 11.22 meters, qualifying for ECAC Championships and breaking the FSU school record. The record was previously held by Tammie Mims set in 1985 (36'5"). Furr also missed the NCAA Division III provisional national qualifying mark by only .01 meters.

Furr also placed first in the high jump with a height of 1.57 meters and eighth in the long jump (4.77 meters).

Sophomore Chauncey Manson had the only other first-place finish for the Bobcats. He placed first in the 200-meter dash with a time of 6.75 and also had a fifth-place finish on the day in the 55-meter dash (6.85).

In the women's one mile run, senior Gwen Massey (Thorofare, N.J./West Deptford) captured third place (5:19.68) while junior Anne Patron (Baltimore, Md./Dulany) crossed the line in eighth place with a time of 5:28.75.

Joining Furr in the field events was senior Kayla Peters (Dunkirk, Md./Northern), who picked up 10th-place finishes in both the weight throw (10.46 meters) and shot put (9.82 meters).

Freshman Christian Smith (Clarksburg, Md./Clarksburg) had a sixth-place finish for the Bobcat men's squad in the shot put with a mark of 12.38 meters while senior Steven Flanagan (Cumberland, Md./Fort Hill) finished sixth in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.63.

In the 400-meter run, sophomore Sean Wright (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen) placed fourth with a time of 52.16 while senior Tarik Muhammad (Pittsville, Md./Riverside) captured sixth (52.70).

The women's 4x800 relay placed fourth with a time of 11:13.15 while the men's 4x200 relay captured third (1:35.78), missing the ECAC Championship time by just over a second. The Bobcat men also placed fourth in the men's 4x400 relay with a time of 3:35.1.

The Bobcats return to action on February 20 at the Mason-Dixion Conference Championships at 10:00 am in Newport News, Va.
