Men's Hoops Gets Back on Track With 75-67 Win Over Allegheny

FROSTBURG, Md. - Senior Brian Anderson (Perry Hall, Md./Eastern Tech) and junior Jamal Bracken (Baltimore, Md./Eastern Tech) scored a combined 43 points to guide the Frostburg State University men's basketball team to a 75-67 victory over Allegheny, Monday night.

The Bobcats (4-1) shot 40.0 percent from the field (24-of-60) and outrebounded the Gators, 40-36, but the difference came at the free throw line. FSU sank 22-of-29 foul shots (75.9%) for the contest, including an 18-of-24 effort (75.0%) in the second half.

The score changed hands five times throughout the game until Anderson hit a three-pointer with 10:02 left in the second half to give FSU the lead for good at 52-51. Anderson later hit two free throws with 46 seconds remaining to hand the Bobcats their largest lead of the evening, 12 points at 72-60, before winning by eight.

Anderson finished with a season-high 22 points and made five 3-PT's for the second-straight game. Bracken capped the evening with 21 points on 9-of-13 shooting (69.2%). Bracken also added seven rebounds and four assists.

FSU led by six points, 11-5, less than five minutes into the game but Allegheny (2-3) settled in and tied the game several times over the next 10 minutes. Anderson hit his final three of the opening half as FSU surged ahead by seven, 34-27, with 49 seconds left. The Bobcats eventually led by four, 34-30, at the break.

The Gators led by as many as four points on two occasions early in the second before FSU pulled away midway through.

Allegheny had three players in double figures, led by 16 points from Devone McLeod. James Ness scored 14 points and Ryan Stanko added 10. The Gators as a team shot 45.0 percent (27-of-60) but couldn't overcome the Bobcats stellar effort at the free throw line.

The Bobcats kick off Capital Athletic Conference action on Wednesday when they host Marymount at 8:00 pm.
