ANNVILLE, Pa. - The Frostburg State volleyball finished the Lebanon Valley quad-match on a positive note, securing victories over Neumann, 3-0, and Lebanon Valley, 3-1, Saturday afternoon.
The Bobcats cruised to a win against Neumann in the first match of the day at the Lebanon Valley quad-match with scores of 25-14, 25-18 and 25-17.
Senior
Sarah Stephens (Oakland, Md./Southern Garrett) led all Bobcats with 16 kills and six digs. Close behind Stephens was junior
Amber Winterling (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg) with 10 kills and two blocks. Her sister,
Sabrina Winterling (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg), had seven kills and three blocks in the match.
Senior
Brittany McVearry (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) led in digs for FSU with nine in the match while picking up two aces. Classmate
Jamie Thomas (Laurel, Md./Reservoir) was close behind with seven digs, three kills, two aces and four blocks. Freshman
Alexandria McLeod
(Lanham, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) led in blocks with six while posting one kill.
Junior setter
Kylie Carrington (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) rounded out the boxscore with 35 assists, four digs, three aces, a block and a kill.
Frostburg State won its second match of the day, as well, with a 3-1 victory over host Lebanon Valley. The Bobcats had a pair of players register double-doubles, with Stephens notching 17 kills and 11 digs and Carrington dishing out 39 assists and 10 digs.
Frostburg State (21-3, 4-0) faced stiff competition from the pesky Dutchmen, as the Bobcats split the first two sets, 25-18 and 20-25. FSU held on for a close 25-20 victory in the third set and pulled away in the fourth to clinch the match, 25-14.
Thomas pitched in with eight kills, eight digs, and six aces. Amber Winterling added 15 kills and seven digs, while Sabrina Winterling notched eight kills and three blocks.
The Bobcats return to action Saturday, Oct. 16, when they host York and Penn State Altoona in a tri-match beginning at 11:00 a.m.
