Volleyball Drops Five-Game Set to Bridgewater 3-2

ANNVILLE, Pa. - For the second time this season, the Frostburg State volleyball team dropped a five-game set and had a winning streak snapped in the process. On Friday evening, the Bobcats lost to a pesky Bridgewater team, 3-2, and had a seven-match winning streak come to an end.

FSU falls to 19-3 overall on the season while BC evens its slate to 10-10.

The Eagles closed out game one with a 6-2 run for a 25-23 victory. After falling behind in the contest, Frostburg rallied with a 7-0 run to take a 10-9 edge. However, the Eagles captured four-straight points and later used the late run for the win.

The Bobcats collected a pair of early 3-0 spurts and used a 5-0 run in the middle part of the second game for a 25-16 win. FSU also took advantage of five Bridgewater errors, including three on serves, late in the game for the win.

Game three went back-and-forth until Bridgewater scored the final three points to break at 22-22 deadlock. FSU collected a late 4-0 surge to rally from a 22-18 hole, but couldn't quite finish off the comeback.

FSU allowed BC to score back-to-back points just once in the set on its way to a 25-17 game four victory. The Bobcats sealed the win with four-straight points, including a pair of kills from senior Sarah Stephens (Oakland, Md./Southern Garrett), to break open a 21-17 lead.

Bridgewater took control of the fifth and decisive game with a 4-0 run for a 7-4 lead. The Bobcats narrowed the deficit to 10-9, but the Eagles pushed their lead to 12-9 with back-to-back points and kept Frostburg from making a comeback.

Stephens posted game and career-highs in both kills (27) and digs (29). The 29 digs are tied for 10th all-time in a single match in school history. Senior Jamie Thomas (Laurel, Md./Reservoir) added 14 kills and a season-high 24 digs while classmate Brittany McVearry (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) posted a season-high 20 digs.

Junior Amber Winterling (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg) had nine kills and 17 digs and junior Kylie Carrington (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) had three kills, nine digs and 44 assists. The match is her sixth this season with 40 or more assists.

The Bobcats return to the court tomorrow morning when they play Neumann at 10:30 am.
