ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - The Frostburg State University volleyball team ended its regular season in stellar fashion with a 3-0 shutout of Goucher and a 3-1 victory over Elizabethtown, while several players climbed up the career statistical charts in the two wins, on Saturday.
The pair of wins pushed the Bobcats to 30-3 overall on the season. It's the second-straight 30-win season for FSU and eighth in the program's history.
FSU eased past Goucher 25-14, 25-10 and 25-15. However, the Bobcats needed four sets for the win over Elizabethtown. The Blue Jays captured the first set 25-22, but Frostburg State rebounded for the win behind 27-25, 25-21 and 25-21 scores.
Senior
Sarah Stephens (Oakland, Md./Southern Garrett) totaled 38 kills in the two matches and moved into third place in the FSU record books in career kills. She now has 1,577 for her career. Stephens also added 27 digs, four aces, three blocks and two assists. She smacked 23 kills against Elizabethtown, her third best outing of the season.
Junior
Kylie Carrington (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) moved into third all-time in career assists after handing out 97 in the pair of matches. She started the afternoon with 37 against Goucher and then registered 60 assists against E-town. The effort against the Blue Jays is the seventh best single-match performance in school history. Carrington also added eight kills, two aces and 18 digs on the day.
Senior
Jamie Thomas (Laurel, Md./Reservoir) totaled 24 kills, 19 digs, six aces and two blocks. With her six aces, she moved into second place all-time in career aces. She also needs just six more digs to move into second place all-time.
Senior libero
Brittany McVearry (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) totaled 16 digs in each match and added three aces.
Junior
Amber Winterling (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg) smashed 30 total kills, collected 24 digs and had five aces while sister
Sabrina Winterling (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg) had 16 kills and two blocks.
The Bobcats host the winner of the No. 4 St. Mary's/No. 5 York match in the CAC Tournament semifinals on Thursday, Nov. 4 at Bobcat Arena.
