FREDERICK, Md. - The Frostburg State University volleyball team collected another shutout as it downed Hood, 3-0, Tuesday night to remain undefeated in Capital Athletic Conference action.
FSU pushed its record to 24-3 overall and 6-0 in the CAC with its fifth-straight win. The Bobcats have posted 17 shutouts this season in 27 matches following Tuesday's 25-12, 25-17, 25-12 victory over Hood (5-13, 0-7).
Senior
Sarah Stephens (Oakland, Md./Southern Garrett) led the Bobcats with 11 kills, 10 digs, one ace and one block while classmate
Jamie Thomas (Laurel, Md./Reservoir) had eight kills, seven digs and four aces.
Junior
Sabrina Winterling (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg) tied for second on the team with eight kills while her sister
Amber Winterling (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg) turned in seven kills, five digs and an ace.
Junior setters
Kylie Carrington (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) and
Christine Barnes (Williamsport, Md./Williamsport) combined for 38 assists in the three-set win. Carrington handed out 27 assists, three digs, one ace and had one kill and Barnes recorded 11 assists and two aces.
Defensively, senior
Brittany McVearry (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) led the team with four digs, followed by freshman
Jamie Frank (Columbia, Md./Atholton) with two digs and two aces and sophomore
Shari Beavers (Cumberland, Md./Fort Hill) with a pair of digs.
Freshmen
Alexandria McLeod (Lanham, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt),
Victoria Veirs (Germantown, Md./Good Council) and
Nadia Ansong (Lanham, Md./Lanham Christian) also contributed on the evening. McLeod had two kills and one block while Veirs and Ansong had one kill each.
Frostburg State returns to the court on Friday, Oct. 22 at a Quad-Match at St. Mary's College. The Bobcats face Lancaster Bible at 6:00 pm.
