FROSTBURG, Md. - On a day reserved for honoring the five graduating seniors on Frostburg State's women's soccer team, one decided to put the game squarely on her foot. Senior forward
Lauren Russell (Waldorf, Md./Westlake) scored the first three goals in a 5-0 Frostburg victory over St. Mary's in a crucial CAC match at blustery Bobcat Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Box Score
Russell's first goal, which proved to be the game-winner, came in the 38th minute. Fellow senior
Kierstin Stevenson (Frostburg, Md./Beall) fed Russell at the edge of the penalty area, where she made two defenders miss before sliding the ball past sprawling St. Mary's goalkeeper Kelsey Wirtz.
The script played out identically in the 58th minute, as Stevenson centered a perfect pass which Russell headed in at the goal mouth. Russell notched her third, and the Bobcats' third, just four minutes later.
Another senior made her way onto the scoresheet in the 67th minute, with defender
Heather Fleishell (Middletown, Md./Middletown) heading in a
Liz Seligman (Rockville, Md./St. Johns College) corner kick.
Freshman forward
Adria Graham (Grantsville, Md./Northern Garrett) capped the scoring in the 86th minute off a feed from junior defender
Nikki Rieland (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll) on the right side. For the match, the Bobcats (12-3, 5-2) outshot St. Mary's, 27-6. Frostburg State also won in shots on goal, 16-2.
Junior goalkeeper
Michelle Buckmaster (St. Leonard, Md./Calvert) earned her third shutout of the season.
Frostburg State moves out of conference to travel to Penn State Altoona on Wednesday before finishing CAC play at Salisbury on October 23.
