Stevenson Second Half Rally Sinks Field Hockey, 4-0

FROSTBURG, Md. - A four-goal second half, including three in span of 4:33, propelled the Stevenson Mustangs past Frostburg State, 4-0, Tuesday night in field hockey at Bobcat Stadium.

The Bobcats (3-13, 1-4) did outshoot Stevenson, 10-9, in shots on goal but couldn't crack Mustang senior goalkeeper Kara Zimmerman. Freshman forward Becky Randel (Columbia, Md./Long Reach) led all players with five shots on goal, while senior forward Breanne Russell (Clements, Md./Chopticon) had six shots with three on goal.

Katelyn Manocheh and Jennifer Sauers each scored a pair of goals for Stevenson (7-8, 2-3), with Manocheh breaking the scoreless tie at 5:20 of the second half. Sauers scored 1:28 later on a feed from Manocheh. At 9:53, Manocheh made the score 3-0 on a slapper from in front of Bobcat sophomore goalkeeper Maggie Edwards (Lebanon, N.J./Hunterdon Central Regional).

Edwards did make four saves in the second half but allowed just as many goals after Sauers knocked in the fourth goal at the 18:03 mark of the second.

Frostburg State returns to action Saturday at St. Mary's in Capital Athletic Conference action. The Bobcats' final home game of the 2010 season is October 23 when they host Salisbury at 11:00 a.m.
