Women's Basketball Defeats AMCC Opponent Mt. Aloysius

FROSTBURG, Md. – Senior Caryn Wright (Baltimore, Md., Western Tech) posted her fourth double-double of the season as the Frostburg State women's basketball team defeated Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Mt. Aloysius, 72-57, Wednesday evening.

Wright posted 20 points and pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds in the win while junior Elizabeth Carrington (Clinton, Md./Oxon Hill) netted 21 points and senior Brittany James (Baltimore, Md./Milford Mill) recorded 11.

The game was tied four times over the first five minutes of the game until Frostburg State (12-5, 9-3) posted a six-point scoring run to give the Bobcats a 14-8 lead over MTA. The Mounties (4-11, 3-8) rallied back with 8:31 remaining to post a one-point advantage over FSU after a layup from Emily McKenna, 19-18.

The teams traded points as the game was tied two more times over the next six minutes with the last coming at the 2:30 mark after a three-pointer from Alexis Tellish, 24-24. The Bobcats rallied with an 8-0 run and came out on top going into the break with an eight-point advantage over the Mounties, 32-24.

Frostburg State came out strong in the second half and led Mt. Aloysius by as much as 17 points twice at 14:39 and 12:20. Over the remainder of the game, the Mounties tried to chip away at the FSU advantage, but were only able to get within 10 points. Four free throws from Carrington and a jumper from MTA's Michelle Peoples in the remaining minute of the game led to the end score, 72-57.

Frostburg State outrebounded Mt. Aloysius 52-34 and had 19 second chance points while the Mounties only posted two.

Lindsey Bush had 21 points in the loss and McKenna netted 17 while Erica Matko recorded nine rebounds.

Frostburg State hosts AMCC opponent Penn State Altoona on January 27 at 6:00 pm.
