Track and Field Men Capture Fourth, Women Fifth at Marietta

MARIETTA, Ohio- Five athletes had individual wins as the Frostburg State men's track and field team captured fourth while the women placed fifth at the Marietta College Open, Saturday afternoon.

Roanoke captured first-place for the women with 150 points while the men's title was taken home by Concord with 126 points. FSU women's squad accumulated 58 points and the men's squad posted 93 on the day.

Junior Anne Patron (Baltimore, Md./Dulany) placed first in the 3,000-meter run (10:56.81) while classmate Emily Furr (Damascus, Md./Poolesville) finished in first place in the high jump (1.55 meters). Furr also captured second in the triple jump with a mark of 10.41 meters.

Sophomores Sean Wright (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen) and Gavin Caupp (Frostburg, Md./Mt. Ridge) had individual first-place finishes on the men's side. Wright placed first in the 500-meter dash (1:09.96) while Caupp crossed the line first in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 9:30.70. Sophomore Chauncey Manson also had a first-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.25.

Aiding the women with a third-place finish in the 500-meter dash was freshman Sharnell White (Baltimore, Md./Patapsco) with a time of 1:32.97. Joining Patron in the 3,000-meter run were senior Christina Aumand (Chesapeake Beach, Md./Huntingtown), who finished third (11:48.54) and junior Jessica O'Neil (Mechanicsville, Md./Chopticon), who captured fourth (12:10.57).

Sophomore Amy Brennan (Fort Washington, Md./St. Mary's Ryken) and freshmen Rheana Henderson and Nicole Parrish (Baltimore, Md./Western) teamed up with Furr in the 4x200-meter relay to finish third with a time of 1:58.04.

Sophomore Markese Hayden (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen) chipped in a second-place finish for the men's squad in the 400-meter dash with a time of 55.14 while Manson finished fourth in the 55-meter dash (6.73).

Joining Wright in the 500-meter dash was sophomore Thomas Bennett (Lutherville, Md./Towson) who captured fourth with a time of 1:13.72.

Manson, Wright, Hayden and Bennett joined together to capture first-place in the 4x400-meter relay (3:39.46) while junior Anthony Tossounian (Rockville, Md./Walter Johnson) and sophomore Yvon Raymond teamed up with freshmen Justin Davis (Suitland, Md./Thomas Stone) and Jason Jackson (Takoma Park, Md./DeMatha) in the 4x200-meter relay to place second (1:37.73).

In the field events, sophomore Michael Pierce (Lanham, Md./Queen Anne) placed third in the triple jump for the Bobcat men with a mark of 11.64 meters.

The Bobcats return to action on January 23 at the Orange and Maroon Classic at Susquehanna University at 9:00 am.
