HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Frostburg State volleyball team defeated Stevens Tech, 3-0, and fell to No. 24 ranked Haverford, 3-0, on the first day of the Haverford Tournament, Friday evening.
In game one, Frostburg State (2-1) defeated Stevens Tech (2-1), 3-0, with game scores of 25-17, 25-21 and 25-23. Although the Ducks were not in the top 25 for the American Volleyball Coaches Association Division III preseason poll, they did received 41 votes.
Senior
Brooke Winterling (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg) led the Bobcats with 10 kills while junior
Sarah Stephens (Oakland, Md./Southern Garrett) posted nine. Winterling also led the team in digs with eight and had three service aces.
Sophomore
Kylie Carrington (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) led the team in assists with 20 and service aces with four. Classmate
Christine Barnes (Williamsport, Md./Williamsport) also posted four service aces in the win for the Bobcats.
Junior
Jamie Thomas (Laurel, Md./Reservoir) filled up the boxscore with four kills, three service aces, two digs and two blocks.
Frostburg State fell in the second game to No. 24 ranked Haverford (3-0), 3-0, with game scores of 25-17, 26-24, 25-12.
Brooke Winterling led the Bobcats in both kills (10) and service aces (2). Stephens smashed nine kills and had three digs while Thomas had five kills, four digs and a block. Carrington handed out 24 assists and McVearry had nine digs in the loss.
The Bobcats are back on the court tomorrow September 5 against Susquehanna at 1:00 pm and Widener at 3:00 pm.
