SALISBURY, Md. – Courtney Webster scored three goals, including two in the first half, to power the sixth ranked Salisbury field hockey team past Frostburg State, 8-0, in the opening game of the SU Invitational, Saturday afternoon.
It's the second-straight loss for the Bobcats (2-2) to a ranked team as FSU fell to No.5 TCNJ last Sunday. The win is the third shutout victory of the fall for the Sea Gulls who open the season 4-0.
SU dominated the contest, leading 32-2 in shots and 11-0 in penalty corners. SU scored five goals in the first half en route to a 5-0 lead at halftime. Webster opened the scoring with her first goal at 12:08. The score remained the same for the next 15 minutes until Salisbury extended the lead to 2-0 on a goal by Kristina Fusco.
The Sea Gulls then took control of the contest with three-straight goals over the next two minutes on goals from Allison Bloodsworth, Fusco and Webster.
Webster opened the scoring in the second half with her third and final goal of the contest at 36:06 as the hosts surged ahead 6-0. SU tallied the final two goals of the game at 59:36 by Caitlyn Ruffus and the final at 63:46 by Katie Matteo.

Maggie Edwards (Lebanon, N.J./Hunterdon Central Regional) made an impressive 17 saves in the loss, the most for a Bobcat keeper since Kristin Cousin stopped 21 shots against Salisbury in 2005. Junior

FSU returns to action tomorrow for the second day of the SU Invitational when it faces Randolph-Macon at 11:00 am.
