Volleyball Wins Two On Day One of the Gettysburg College Blast

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Senior Brooke Winterling (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg) smashed 41 kills as the Frostburg State volleyball team defeated both Mary Washington, 3-1, and Bridgewater, 3-2, on day one of the Gettysburg College Blast, Friday.

In game one, Frostburg State (7-1) downed Mary Washington (4-3) with game scores of 18-25, 25-16, 25-22, 25-17.

Brooke Winterling filled up the box score against Mary Washington posting 17 kills, 11 digs, four service aces and one block. Senior Chelsea Wassell (Westernport, Md./Southern Garrett), junior Jamie Thomas (Laurel, Md./Reservoir) and sophomore Sabrina Winterling (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg) each chipped in five kills in the win for the Bobcats. Sabrina Winterling also recorded two blocks while Wassell had one and Thomas posted nine digs and one block.

Sophomore Kylie Carrington (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) handed out 40 assists against the Eagles while junior Brittany McVearry (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) had ten digs.

The Bobcats defeated Bridgewater (1-6) in game two with scores of 19-25, 25-18, 25-19, 21-25, 15-12.

Brooke Winterling led the team in kills with 24 while Wassell smashed 12 and Sabrina Winterling had eight. Brooke Winterling also had seven digs and three blocks. Sabrina Winterling chipped in two blocks in the victory and Wassell posted one.

Leading the team in digs was Thomas recording 22 while sophomore Amber Winterling (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg) had 19. Carrington posted 50 assists against Bridgewater and Thomas handed out three service aces.

The Bobcats are back on the court tomorrow September 12 at day two of the Gettysburg College Blast when they face Elizabethtown at noon and Gettysburg at 2:00 pm.
