Rohrs Named to ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Second Team

FROSTBURG, Md. - Frostburg State senior Sumer Rohrs (Frostburg, Md./Forest) earned her second award in as many days as she has been named to the second team of the 2009 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District College Division Women's Track/Cross Country team. Selections are made by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Rohrs is the first FSU track & field athlete to earn Academic All-District honors through CoSIDA.

Rohrs, who holds a 3.56 grade point average in psychology, was named the 2009 NCAA Division III Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association yesterday afternoon.

Rohrs can add the latest two awards to her list of accomplishments this year that also include a USTFCCCA Mideast Region Women's Track Athlete of the Year selection, 2009 Most Outstanding Female Performer award at the ECAC Championships and a 2009 Female Track Athlete of the Meet for the NCAA Indoor National Championships honor.

However, Rohrs capped the outdoor season in style with the biggest honor as she set the FSU school record with six National Championships during her time with the Bobcats. She set the mark after defending her national championship in the 100-meter hurdles and adding a national title in the 400-meter hurdles in mid-May at the NCAA Outdoor Championships at Don Drumm Stadium on the campus of Marietta College.

Rohrs won the 100 hurdles for the second-straight season after running the fourth fastest time in NCAA Division III history (13.77). She later captured her first title in the 400 hurdles after running the 10th fastest time in Division III history in 60.05. Both times are Don Drumm Stadium records while the 400 hurdle time is a school record.

With her two victories, Rohrs helped the Bobcats into ninth place at the outdoor championships with 21.5 points, the school's highest finish since capturing ninth in 1987.
