ERIE, Pa. - The Frostburg State softball team was eliminated from the 2009 AMCC Tournament Championship game with a 2-0 loss to host and top seed Penn State Behrend, Sunday morning.
With the victory, the Lions (32-6) won the AMCC Title and earned the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament for the second year in a row.
The Lions (32-6) scored both runs in the fifth inning off RBIs from Lia Sorce and Katie Whitby. PSB starter Emma Hahn also took care of business on the mound, fanning 10 and allowing just two hits to earn the win.
Senior
Kaitlyn Wagner (Leesburg, Va./Loudoun County) and junior
Samantha Quirin (Lovettsville, Va./Loudoun County) each had a hit for the Bobcats (26-17). Freshman starter
Megan Magee (Egg Harbor City, N.J./Holy Spirit) struckout two batters and allowed two runs in the loss.
This is the second-straight season that PSB has eliminated FSU from the conference championship game and earned the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Last spring, Frostburg State was eliminated from the championship by Behrend 2-0 and 9-1.
The Bobcats now await a possible bid to ECAC Tournament.
