FROSTBURG, Md. - The Frostburg State men's tennis team swept Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Pitt-Greensburg, 9-0, for its first conference win of the season, Thursday.
The Bobcats now have an overall record of 3-5 and an AMCC record of 1-2.
Senior
Greg Shedd (Middletown, Md./Middletown), sophomore
Phillip Darden (Washington, D.C./Thomas Stone) and freshmen
Mike Stevenson (Bowie, Md./Bowie) and
Eddie McMurtrie (Boonsboro, Md./Boonsboro) all had two wins on the day.
Shedd and Stevenson defeated Clark Lawrie and Tomas Hric in the No. 1 doubles competition with a score of 8-2. The pair now has an overall record of 7-1 and remains undefeated in the conference play (3-0).
Sophomores
Josh Galvez (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) and
Jerry Castillo (Taloma Park, Md./Montgomery Blair) picked up the win in the second doubles match against Matt Huttenlock and Curley (8-2). McMurtrie and Darden won the third doubles competition in a forfeit.
Stevenson picked up his second victory against Lawrie in the first singles match (6-1, 6-0) and Shedd defeated Hric in the No. 2 singles competition (6-0, 6-0).
In the third singles match, McMurtrie won against Huttenlock with scores of 6-0, 6-1. Senior
Jeff Lesky (Elmira, N.Y./Elmira) defeated Clapper in the No. 4 singles competition (6-2, 6-0) while freshman
Steve French (New Windsor, Md./Francis Scott Key) won against Curley (6-0, 6-0).
Darden rounded out the victories for the Bobcats in the sixth singles match winning in a forfeit.
