Women's Basketball Beats Mt. Aloysius

FROSTBURG, Md. – Senior Jamie Morningstar (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) posted a game-high 19 points as the Frostburg State women's basketball team defeated Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent, Mount Aloysius, 75-53, on senior night in Bobcat Arena.

Junior Caryn Wright (Baltimore, Md./Western Tech) chipped in a double-double in the win for the Bobcats, netting 10 points and 12 rebounds, while freshman Elizabeth Carrington (Clinton, Md./Oxon Hill) recorded 12 points.

Frostburg State (15-9, 12-5) was 13-of-29 (44.8%) from within the paint while Mt. Aloysius (7-17, 5-12) shot 10-of-30 (33.3%) in the first half. The Bobcats took an early six-point lead over the Mounties after scoring the first six points of the game, 6-0, ending at the 18:29-mark.

FSU continued to dominate the lead until MAC posted a five-point scoring run to get within one-point of the Bobcats with 2:42 remaining until the break, 26-25. With 1:15 left, Frostburg State ended the half by scoring four-consective points to give the score of 35-27 going into the break.

In the second half, the Bobcats held the Mounties to only 8-of-27 (29.6%) from the floor while shooting 13-of-33 (39.4%). With 15:31 left in play, FSU enlarge its lead to 17 points after a free throw from Carrington, which ended a nine-point scoring run for the Bobcats, 46-29.

The Mounties rallied back to within 11 points of Frostburg State, 51-40, with 10:18 remaining after scoring six-consective points, ending with a pair of free throws from Amanda Rieg.

FSU answered MAC with a 12-point scoring run, giving it a 23-point advantage, 63-40, over the Mounties at the 7:10 mark. Mount Aloysius cut the Frosburg State deficit to 16-points, 69-53, with 1:11 remaining in regulation after a layup from Amber Severa. With ten seconds remaining, a free throw from freshman Jinaki Boston (Baltimore, Md./South Side Academy) ended scoring in the game, giving the Bobcats a 75-53 victory over the Mounties.

Kaylee Keagy recorded 16 points for Mount Aloysius while Emily McKenna and Rieg each chipped in nine points. Carlie Frick posted nine rebounds in the loss for the Mounties.

The Bobcats are back in action on Saturday, February 21 as they travel to AMCC opponent La Roche for a 1:00 pm matchup.
