Swimming Wraps Up at the Fredonia State Invitational; Men Finish Eighth, Women Ninth

FREDONIA, N.Y. - The Frostburg State men's swimming team captured eighth place while the women placed ninth as they wrapped up competition on day three of the Fredonia State Invitational, Sunday evening.

Fredonia State captured the title for the women with 869 points and finishing first for the men was Penn State Behrend with 836 points. The FSU men's squad racked up 188 points over the course of the three day meet while the women finished with 186.

Senior Thirza Roberto (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) captured third place in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:05.20.

Freshman Alix Bunten (Herndon, Va./Herndon) placed eighth in the 100-yard butterfly (1:07.27) while classmate Caleb Stair (Hyndman, Pa./Hyndman) finished in eighth place for the men in the 100-yard butterfly (57.14).

Also posting top-16 finishes on the evening were freshmen Sam Mulvey (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake), Trevor Kozlow (Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake), Reed Brown (Silver Spring, Md./Sherwood), Erica Minor (Upper Marlboro, Md./Bishop McNamara) and Jessica Rice (Gransonville, Md./Kent Island).

Kozlow placed ninth in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 57.87 and Mulvey finished in 15th place in the 200-yard freestyle (2:13.32). Rice touched the wall in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:13.47, finishing in 15th place while Brown captured 15th place in the men's 100-yard butterfly with a time of 59.91. Minor captured 13th in the 100-yard backstroke, touching the wall at 1:13.41.

In the men's 400-yard freestyle relay, Kozlow and Stair joined junior Bill Ford (Towson, Md./Calvert Hall) and senior Jack Hudson (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) joined together to finish seventh with a time of 3:31.79.

The Bobcats are back in the pool at home against Hood on January 16th at 2:00 pm.
