Men's Basketball Shoots Its Way Past Penn State Behrend 75-70

FROSTBURG, Md. - Four starters scored in double figures and the Frostburg State University men's basketball team shot 53.8 percent from the field on its way to a 75-70 victory over Penn State Behrend in AMCC action, Saturday afternoon.

The victory is the third-straight for the Bobcats (6-1, 3-1) and is the fifth win this season by eight or fewer points. Meanwhile, the Lions had a three-game winning streak snapped in the process and sit at 5-2 overall and 2-2 in the AMCC.

The Bobcats turned in their second best shooting effort of the season (53.8%) behind 28-of-52 from the floor. Penn State Behrend shot 42.2 percent (27-of-64) but made 13 three-pointers to counter FSU's hot shooting.

The lead changed eight times in the contest, including six times in the second half, and the Bobcats took the lead for good with just 3:56 left in the second stanza.

With FSU down two, 61-59 with 6:19 to play, junior Brian Anderson (Perry Hall, Md./Eastern Tech) took control of the contest scoring 13 consecutive-points for the Bobcats. An Anderson three-pointer at 3:56 gave the Bobcats the lead for good and junior Busha Koffa (Germantown, Md./Seneca Valley) hit two free throws with 18 seconds left to give the hosts a seven-point edge 74-67.

Anderson finished with a team-high 17 points while junior Jamal Bracken (Baltimore, Md./Eastern Tech) scored 15. Koffa added 14 points and junior Steven Ogg (Arlington, Va./Yorktown) scored 12 to round out the four starters in double figures.

Behrend's Adam Kaiser led all players with 21 points, behind six three-pointers. Justin Kovac and Nick Collella each scored 13.

FSU jumped out to a 10-point lead (14-4) just over five minutes into the first half and held the advantage for much of the first. Kaiser hit back-to-back three pointers to hand the Lions their first lead of the contest, 27-25, with 4:51 to play until halftime. The Bobcats ended the half on a small 5-0 run to take a 33-30 lead into intermission.

The second half started like the first as FSU opened a 10-point lead (42-32) just short of four minutes into action. However, the lead would change hands six times over the next 12:27 until Anderson gave FSU the lead for good at 3:56.
