FROSTBURG, Md. - Senior
Brooke Winterling (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg) and junior
Sarah Stephens (Oakland, Md./Southern Garrett) of the Frostburg State volleyball team have been honored by the College Sports Information Director's of America (CoSIDA). The Bobcat duo have been named to the CoSIDA ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II second and third teams, respectively.
The District II region includes Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. To be nominated for the CoSIDA Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.3 or higher cumulative grade point average and be a starter or significant reserve.
The pair have helped FSU to a 28-4 overall record, a perfect 10-0 mark in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference and a regular season league title.
Winterling, a 2008 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II second team selection, has been an offensive force for the Bobcats throughout her four years with the program. She is a three-time All-AMCC first team selection, two-time conference Player of the Year and holds the school record for career kills (2,133). Winterling has paced the AMCC in kills in each of her four years and is currently third in the nation in kills per set (4.62). Off the court, Winterling is a Dean's List student and a three-time All-AMCC Academic recipient. Winterling is majoring in psychology and holds a 3.79 grade point average.
Stephens is ranked second on both the Bobcats and in the AMCC in total kills (324) and is sixth in the conference in hitting percentage (.276). A 2008 All-AMCC first team honoree, Stephens is fifth all-time in school history with 1,047 career kills. She has also recorded 24 service aces, 227 digs and 21 total blocks. Off the court, Stephens is a business administration major with a 3.95 grade point average.
Frostburg State, the two-time defending AMCC Tournament champion, host the semifinals and finals of this year's AMCC Tournament this weekend at Bobcat Arena.
