SALEM, Va. - Five players scored in double figures and the Frostburg State men's basketball team held off a late charge from Lynchburg for an 80-77 victory on the second day of the 2009 V-Foundation Classic, Saturday.

The Bobcats open the season 3-0 while the Hornets fall to 1-3.
FSU led by eight points with 5:02 left in the half, but the Hornets closed the gap over the next 4:30 and tied the contest at 77 with just 39 seconds left. The Bobcats made three free throws down the stretch and LC missed two late foul shots for the 80-77 final score. Frostburg State also received a boost when Lynchburg's leading scoring, Steven Echols, fouled out at 2:09 with a game-high 22 points.
Frostburg State junior Busha Koffa (Germantown, Md./Seneca Valley) posted a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds while juniors
Brian Anderson (Perry Hall, Md./Eastern Tech) and
Terrance Taylor (Oxon Hill, Md./Cornerstone Christian) each added 14.
The Bobcats led 38-36 at halftime after a back-and-forth first stanza that featured four lead changes and six ties. Frostburg State held a pair of five-point leads in the first but was unable to sustain the lead.
Echols gave Lynchburg its largest lead of the opening half, 13-9, with a three-pointer at 14:29. The Hornets later led by three, 30-27 at 6:11, but the Bobcats closed out the remainder of the half on an 11-6 run.
Frostburg State never trailed in the second half and Lynchburg managed to tie the game just three times. Senior Nick Sefick (Shady Grove, Md./Damascus) put the Bobcats up by five points (58-53) with a three-pointer at 12:20. Frostburg State took it's largest lead of the contest, 74-65, with 6:02 to play and the Hornets used one last push with their late run.
FSU shot 48.1 percent (26-of-54) from the floor and outrebounded LC 41-30. The Bobcats were also 25-of-37 (67.6 %) from the charity stripe.
Frostburg State returns to action on Tuesday when it travels to Pitt-Bradford at 7:00 pm.
