SALEM, Va. - Senior Nick Sefick (Shady Grove, Md./Damascus) scored a game-high 22 points and Frostburg State shot 56.3 percent from the floor on its way to an 87-67 victory over Roanoke in the first round of the 2009 V-Foundation Classic, Friday night.

Sefick scored 20 of his 22 points in the second half, including five three-pointers, and the Bobcats (2-0) cruised to a 22-point lead late in the game. FSU was 36-of-64 from the floor and outrebounded Roanoke (1-1) 51-30. Bobcat junior
Terrance Taylor (Oxon Hill, Md./Cornerstone Christian) added 21 points and a team-high eight rebounds while junior Brian Anderson (Perry Hall, Md./Eastern Tech) scored 19.
The Bobcats never trailed and the game was tied just once. Taylor handed the Bobcats their first double-digit lead with a 34-23 edge with 4:39 to play in the opening half. Taylor struck the final blow of the first stanza with a layup with two seconds left to give FSU a 14-point lead (44-30) at the break.
Frostburg State had command of the second half early on, but the Maroons narrowed the gap to 10, 53-43, with a 9-1 run that started at 15:29.
However, the Bobcats kept the pressure on and extended their lead to 19 points (76-57) with just 4:55 to play. Frostburg State took a 22-point lead (87-65), its largest lead of the contest, with just 35 seconds left.
Kendrick Chittock led the scoring for Roanoke with 16 points and a game-high nine rebounds.
The Bobcats play Lynchburg tomorrow at 1:00 pm on the second day of V-Foundation Classic.
