FROSTBURG, Md. - Junior
Elizabeth Carrington (Clinton, Md./Oxon Hill) hit the game-winning layup with 21 seconds left to hand Frostburg State a narrow 63-62 victory over Stevenson in women's basketball action, Sunday afternoon in the season opener for both schools.

The Bobcats (1-0) never led in the second half until Carrington's layup and rallied from a four-point halftime deficit behind 52.4 (11-of-21) percent shooting from the floor.
Carrington finished with 13 points while classmate
Mercedes White (Bowie, Md./Bowie) scored a game-high 19 points and senior
Brittany James (Baltimore, Md./Milford MIll) added 11.
Frostburg State shot just 36.0 percent (18-of-50) from the field for the game but poured in 25-of-34 free throws, including a 14-of-19 effort in the second half. FSU also took advantage of 22 Mustang turnovers, converting into 20 points.
The first half went back and forth as the lead changed hands 10 times. Stevenson (0-1) led by as many as seven (15-8) with 9:32 to play in the first but FSU used 10-2 run for a one-point lead (18-17).

Brynn Arnone (Keedysville, Md./Boonsboro) hit a jumper at 3:30 to give the hosts a 24-23 lead, but Stevenson closed out the half with 7-4 run for a 30-26 halftime lead.
SU kept the pressure on in the second half, never relinquishing the lead and allowing only three ties until Carrington's layup. Stevenson led by as many as six points, but the Bobcat defense kept the Mustangs from pulling away.
Frostburg State returns home this weekend when it takes on Guilford in the first game of the Jim Crawley Tournament at 6:00 pm on Friday evening.
