FROSTBURG, Md. - The Frostburg State women's tennis team swept Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent La Roche, 9-0, to remain undefeated against AMCC opponents, Thursday afternoon.
Frostburg State has an overall record of 11-3 and a conference record of 8-0.
Seniors
Caroline Shedd (Middletown, Md. / Middletown) and
Liz Coblentz (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll), junior
Vicky Stafford (Lee, N.H./Oyster River) and freshmen
Elly Dannenfelser (Joppa, Md./John Carroll) and
Megan Martin (Richmond, Va./Mills Goodwin) all had two wins on the day.
Dannefelser and Martin defeated Christina Shields and Chiara Irakoze in the number one doubles match (8-1) while Shedd and Stafford won against Nikki Flaherty and Devin Seymour in the No. 2 doubles competition (8-4). In the third doubles match, Coblentz and sophomore
Ashley Kuhns (Latrobe, Pa./Derry Area) picked up the victory against Chia Fang Wu and Lynka Ineza with a score of 8-0.
In the No. 1 singles match, Dannefelser won against Sheilds (6-0, 6-1) and Stafford picked up her second win in the number two singles competition against Irakoze (7-6 (7-5), 4-6, 7-6(3)). Shedd defeated Seymour in the third singles competition with scores of 6-0, 7-5.
Martin picked up her second victory against Flaherty in number four singles match (6-1, 6-1) while Coblentz won against Wu in the No. 5 singles match (6-1, 6-0). In the No. 6 singles match sophomore
Jannil Sites (Waynesboro, Pa./James Buchanan) picked up a win over Ineza (6-2, 6-2) to finish the day for the Bobcats.
